ISLAMABAD, September 9 (APP): Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong has said that China and Pakistan are ironclad friends and are committed to jointly implementing the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) while further strengthening bilateral relations.


According to a statement issued by the Chinese Embassy on Wednesday, the ambassador said that in September last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Governance Initiative at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Tianjin Summit, providing a clear and actionable framework for promoting multilateralism, global solidarity, equality and justice.


He said the core principles of the initiative include sovereign equality, the rule of international law, multilateralism, a people-centered approach and achieving results through practical action.


Jiang Zaidong said that over the past year, the Global Governance Initiative has received broad international recognition, with nearly 160 countries and international organizations expressing support and positive responses. Groups of Friends of Global Governance have also been established in New York, Geneva and Vienna, with more than 60 countries joining them.


He said China has issued a conceptual framework for the Global Governance Initiative as well as a white paper titled “A More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China’s Principles, Proposals and Actions,” outlining objectives, principles and practical measures to make global governance more just, equitable and effective.


The Chinese ambassador said Pakistan has consistently supported the Global Governance Initiative. Following President Xi Jinping’s proposal of the initiative, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also expressed support for it, describing it as important for global peace, development and stability.


He said China and Pakistan have translated the principles of global governance into practical action through joint efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East and Gulf region. President Xi Jinping has also appreciated Pakistan’s active role and diplomatic efforts for restoring peace in the Middle East.


Jiang Zaidong said Pakistan is also playing an active role in promoting fair and equitable global governance in the field of artificial intelligence and is a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization.


He said China would work with Pakistan in the future to make more effective and substantive progress in implementing the Global Governance Initiative. Both countries would continue joint efforts to promote cooperation among the Global South, safeguard an international system centered on the United Nations and uphold the rule of international law.


The Chinese ambassador said Pakistan’s assumption of the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was an important development. China, together with other member states, would fully support Pakistan’s presidency and promote exemplary multilateral cooperation with Pakistan through the SCO platform.


He said the two countries would also accelerate the development of CPEC 2.0, focusing on key sectors including industry, agriculture, minerals and information technology. In this regard, five development corridors—growth, livelihood enhancement, innovation, green development and openness—would be promoted.


Jiang Zaidong said that alongside major development projects, “small but beautiful” public welfare projects would also be advanced, including the construction of 100 water facilities in Balochistan, upgrading 1,000 classrooms and providing 100,000 school supply kits.


He said the objective of China-Pakistan cooperation was to ensure that people in all parts of Pakistan benefited from the fruits of bilateral cooperation and that the benefits of development reached ordinary citizens.


The Chinese ambassador said global governance was standing at a new crossroads and China was ready to work with its ironclad friend Pakistan to confront uncertainties in the international landscape by drawing strength from the enduring resilience of China-Pakistan relations.


He expressed the resolve that China and Pakistan would remain at the forefront of implementing the Global Governance Initiative and play an even more effective role in building a community with a shared future for humanity.
